Hi there, I’m Nina

Nina has been working as a teacher and school leader for over two decades!  She began her career in early childhood and elementary education as a classroom teacher in 2nd, 4th and 5th grades.  She became an expert in literacy and and began working as an Academic Interventionist helping young people who had difficulties in reading, writing and speaking to develop the foundational skills and confidence they needed to be successful.  She is familiar with various literacy learning models and prides herself on using the best techniques from both whole-language and phonics approaches.   Following nearly a decade of success as a classroom teacher and coach, Nina became a middle-school assistant principal where she led the English, Humanities and Special education departments.  She honed her skills working with pre-teens and teens and student achievement soared under her leadership. A lifelong learner, Nina returned to school full-time earning a prestigious fellowship at New York University where she worked with leaders in literacy and urban education. She worked at the college level during this time, training and educating teachers on best practices in the classroom.  She returned to K-12 schooling in 2017 first as the Director of Speech and Debate and then as the Director of Special Education in an award-winning high school.​  Nina is highly qualified as a tutor and holds a BA in English from NYU, an MA in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education, an MPHIL in Teaching and Learning from NYU and is currently earning her PhD.   She is certified as a teacher of all subjects, PreK-Grade 6, as an English teacher Grades 7-9 and as a school leader K-12.  A recent transplant to NJ, Nina enjoys the many outdoor activities northern Jersey affords and can be seen hiking the Ramapo Mountains with her dog!
